Join us for a screening of LUMO, the award-winning documentary that chronicles one Congolese woman’s journey from devastation to empowerment in a HEAL Africa hospital.

The film will be followed by a panel discussion with:

• Judy Anderson, Executive Director, HEAL Africa
• Noella Coursaris Musunka, Congolese Model, Founder, Georges Malaika Foundation
• Kambale Musavuli, Spokesperson, Friends of the Congo

The evening will conclude with a reception; appetizers and light refreshments will be served, graciously donated by Five Guys.

NY Times journalist Nicholas Kristof recommends LUMO and calls HEAL Africa “truly heroic.” Don’t miss this event! Tickets will sell out, so buy yours today!

Background on the Congo:

War has been raging in the Democratic Republic of Congo for over a decade. Over 5.4 million people have died already – more than Darfur, Afghanistan, and Iraq combined – making this the deadliest war since World War II. Armed groups from Congo and from neighboring countries continue to vie for power and natural resources in a country endowed with the largest amount of mineral wealth per square kilometer in the world. More than 85 multi-national corporations were named as illegally exploiting the Congo in a 2002 UN report.

This conflict is often referred to as the War on Women, as soldiers and rebels from all sides are employing largescale systematic rape as their main strategy for destroying communities and asserting power. Tens of thousands of Congo's women are raped each year, however the world remains largely silent.

Help us break this silence. Ticket proceeds go to HEAL Africa's 'Heal My People' program, which provides medical, psychological, spiritual, and social care for Congo's female victims of sexual violence.
